SUMMER SAFETY
After such a long winter, now that spring is finally here everyone is anxious to get outdoors and enjoy riding on the trails. The OFATV clubs are gearing up for summer events.
I would like to remind everyone that the OFATV is the group that people look to for answers to many questions about ATVing. We are the voice for this sport in Ontario. This brings me to the most important point - SAFETY. We need to set the example for everyone. So please remember to always wear the proper gear and most importantly your helmet. I see so many people loading and unloading their machines off trailers and pick up trucks with no helmet on! Whenever you get on your machine, before you even swing your leg over the seat please set the example and have your helmet on and fastened properly. When clubs are having a public ride make sure to enforce the rule – NO HELMET NO RIDE.
Have a great and safe season enjoying the trails and outdoors!

Safety Coordinator
OFATV
The Ontario Federation of All Terrain Vehicles launched a Youth Rider Safety Program last fall, headed by Steve Griffin, Safety Coordinator for the OFATV. The course is designed to introduce young Ontario riders to the safe operation of All Terrain Vehicles. We would like our youth to enjoy the experience of the great outdoors of Ontario while teaching them safety, protecting the environment and introducing them to a more active lifestyle.
The course has been designed for youth between the ages of 12 through 16, however all ages are welcome and encouraged to participate. In class training by volunteer trainers is approximately three hours consisting of an introduction, laws and regulations, preparation for a ride, the safe operation of an ATV, riding techniques, and riders responsibilities. There is a $15 registration fee which will go into the development of the course. All participants must fill out a registration form which must be signed by a parent or guardian. Please contact the OFATV at www.ofatv.org for an instructor near you.
We are still recruiting volunteer instructors and looking for enthusiastic candidates who are experienced ATV riders that can share with the classrooms their many experiences, obstacles and mishaps they have encountered while providing personal insight to the students making them better and safer riders. If you feel that you may qualify and can commit your time on a regular basis as an instructor please contact Steve Griffin at sgriffin@ofatv.org for further information or contact Shannon Audette info@ofatv.org
